Anatomy of a login

Last updated Oct 5, 2026

A login holds a name, email or username, password, matching websites, an optional authenticator code and backup codes, a folder, and a note.

  • Name — what the item is called.
  • Email or username — your username or email for the site.
  • Password — with a live strength meter and a Generate button.
  • Websites — one or more URLs with match rules (see Matching websites).
  • Authenticator code — an optional authenticator (TOTP) code stored on the login, plus the site's backup codes (one per line).
  • Folder and Note — organization and free-form notes. Tags are added from All items (select items, then Add tags).

Tip

Turn on “Require master password to view” to re-prompt before revealing a sensitive item. To mark a favorite, select its star in All items.
