Back up and restore your vault

Download an encrypted backup of your vault and restore it later by merging or replacing.
In the web vault, open Settings, then Backup & recovery. A backup is an encrypted .json file protected by your master password, restorable only into your account.
Create a backup
- Under Encrypted backup, select Create backup and confirm with your master password.
- Store the downloaded file somewhere safe.
Restore a backup
- Select Restore backup and choose your backup file.
- Review the summary, select Continue, and confirm with your master password.
- Choose Merge with current vault (adds alongside your items) or Replace current vault (moves current items to Trash first), then select Continue.
Tip
For a plain-text copy or moving to another tool, use Export CSV instead.
