Save your 2FA backup codes

Last updated Oct 5, 2026

When you turn on two-factor authentication, you get 10 single-use backup codes, shown once — store them offline.

Backup codes let you back in — or turn off 2FA — if you lose access to your authenticator. You get 10, and each code works once.

  1. On the backup codes screen shown during 2FA setup, select Copy all (or write the codes down).
  2. Store them somewhere safe and offline, separate from your phone.
  3. Select I've saved these to finish.

Important

The codes are shown only once. If you lose both your authenticator and your backup codes, you may be locked out — set up a recovery key as a further safety net. For a fresh set, open Settings, then 2FA, and select Create new codes under Backup codes (the old set stops working).
